Tree Removal in Woy Woy

Tree Removal around Woy Woy
Council's 2019 flying-fox strategy describes them roosting in melaleucas between the wetland and the houses along Kerrawah Boulevard, and nearby yards holding jacaranda, mango, fig and avocado trees they can roost or feed in. It also says that where a camp reaches onto private land, the landholder has to protect the flying-foxes and their habitat just as Council does. Its occupancy records stop at 2017, so whether they are roosting near you now is something to look for, not assume.
The State's code of practice for flying-fox camps says trimming should be done while the animals are away from the camp, and that a flying-fox expert should be there when trees in an occupied camp are trimmed or removed. Work the code does not cover needs the State's own authorisation under biodiversity law. A tree well away from the wetland raises none of this, and the ordinary rules apply to it.
Permits and Central Coast Council rules
Woy Woy also holds Burrawang/Hillview Street Reserve, one of the three largest remnants of the endangered Umina Coastal Sandplain Woodland, and no Council exemption extends to a tree that is part of an endangered community. Elsewhere in the suburb, a tree 3 metres or taller still needs Council's permit before it comes down, unless an exemption fits, at $245 for up to two trees in 2026-27, excluding GST.
