Tree Removal around Wamberal
Both reserves fall inside the suburb's boundary and are managed by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. The lagoon reserve holds stands of undisturbed littoral rainforest, which NPWS says occur in only a few other places on the Central Coast; littoral rainforest is an endangered ecological community in New South Wales, and damage to the edge of a stand lets salt and wind into it. A tree on the reserve side of the fence is a matter for NPWS rather than a private booking.
The Rural Fire Service's 10/50 rule, which lets an owner in an entitlement area clear trees within 10 metres of a home, does not reach land reserved under the National Parks and Wildlife Act. It also leaves out land within 100 metres of the coastline or an estuary and within 10 metres of a lagoon, and those exclusions are drawn around exactly the features Wamberal is built beside. Permits and Central Coast Council rules
On your own Wamberal lot, Council's permit applies once a tree is 3 metres tall or has a trunk 75 millimetres across at 1.4 metres, unless an exemption fits. A dead tree, or one within 3 metres of an approved house or pool, can come down without a permit, provided the landowner keeps a Trade or Consulting arborist's written record for six months, and no exemption covers part of an endangered ecological community.
